Part 145 Certification: Becoming an Approved Maintenance and Repair Organization
In aviation, the right to maintain and repair aircraft components is earned through approval by the aviation authorities. Part 145 is that approval.

Organizations that maintain, repair or overhaul aircraft components need approval from the relevant aviation authority: in the United States, the FAA under 14 CFR Part 145, and in Europe, EASA under its Part 145 regulation. Approval opens markets and customers, and requires a demanding system of procedures, people, facilities and oversight.
What approval requires
- A maintenance organization exposition or repair station manual describing how the organization works.
- Qualified and authorized personnel, with training records.
- Suitable facilities, equipment, tools and technical data.
- A quality system with independent oversight and audits.
- Procedures for work orders, records, release to service and reporting.
The approval journey
The process typically includes preparation of the manuals and procedures, internal readiness reviews, an application to the authority, an audit and, once approved, ongoing oversight. Working with both the FAA and EASA adds requirements, which are easier to plan for together.
Hardware, software and cyber
- Hardware: components, tooling, calibration and facility requirements.
- Software: maintenance records, data integrity and controlled technical documentation.
- Cyber: protection of aviation data and systems, increasingly expected by authorities and customers.
How we work
We guide organizations through Part 145 readiness and approval with the FAA and EASA, from gap assessment and manuals to audits, based on hands-on experience leading such certifications.
